Past

— I spent years observing the surrounding life, however I never thought of buying a camera until my friend Simon offered me his camera back in 2009. Being totally overwhelmed by all the new possibilities, I simply ignored photography, and it took me a few months to make my first photographic steps. I ended up using my camera once or twice a year to try different styles until I found my love in people.

Exile

I've always been fascinated by the Tibetan culture and while being in Chengdu, China for the first time I found out about the Tibetan district. Because of the tense political situation between Tibet and China, Tibetan people were allowed to live in China under very restrictive circumstances, and with no surprise, it didn't feel like they were an accepted part of the community. Being also separated into small groups and guarded by the police didn't benefit anything good to the whole situation. Despite the circumstances, some Tibetan people were sewing traditional clothes, making music or just happily chatting. While I was walking around, I found this Tibetan woman cleaning two pots inside a narrow alley. This picture is also the reason why I started to create a more specific interest in Tibetan culture, travel and photography about people. This experience and growing interest led me to the border of Tibet a few years later.

Japan

An abstract impression of my stay in Japan in eight pictures. I remember my first visit to Japan, which was also my first time in Asia, as an overwhelmingly positive experience. Looking back, it always bugged me that I rushed through the two weeks rather than spending more time with the people. However, it was another game-changing experience and a heavy influence on my later travel style.

Riot

Russia vs. Poland: A look behind the scenes. I spend a month in Poland during the EURO 2012 and went to Warsaw to watch the match between Russia vs. Poland. In the end, I got these pics, pepper spray in my eyes and a kick in the face. It was, besides the unnecessary violence and pain, an interesting experience which gave me a peek into the life of a photojournalist.

Emptiness

Usually overcrowded places in my neighbourhood, not so overcrowded. One of the first series I ever took and where kind of everything started.
